Our policies
How we protect your privacy, keep the site accessible, and use anonymous data responsibly. In short: we collect no personally identifiable data.
Privacy & Data — no personally identifiable data
This website is built to collect NO personally identifiable data. We do not ask for, store, or share your name, your child's name, email address, postal address, date of birth, NHS number or EHCP number anywhere on this site.
Our tools (letter templates, the Provision Tracker, the SEND Diary and the Deadline Tracker) run entirely on your own device. What you type stays in your browser's local storage — it is never uploaded to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data removes it.
The Inclusion, Belonging & Thriving (SIBT) questionnaire is fully anonymous. When you begin, the site generates a random Family ID (for example SIBT-84X2) so a parent's answers and their children's answers can be grouped together — without anyone ever knowing who you are. The Family ID is not linked to any account, login, name or email. Free-text boxes are automatically checked and blocked if they look like they contain personal details.
Anonymous questionnaire answers are combined with other families' answers to produce area-level statistics shown on public dashboards, and to support anonymous SEND research. You can close the page at any time before submitting to erase your answers.
We use no advertising trackers and set no marketing cookies. If you contact us through the site, we only use what you send to reply to you.
Accessibility statement
We want every parent, carer, child and young person to be able to use this site, whatever their access needs. We aim to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
The SIBT questionnaire is offered in multiple accessible formats — Standard, Primary (large emoji buttons), Easy Read, Autism-Friendly (clear, literal wording) and Speech & Language (SLCN, keywords and symbols) — and in English, Polish, Romanian, Urdu and Panjabi, with right-to-left support for Urdu.
We use clear language, strong colour contrast, keyboard-friendly controls and descriptive labels throughout. If you find something hard to use, please tell us through the Contact page and we will fix it as a priority.
Research & ethics
The SEND Accountability Project is committed to acting with integrity, transparency, fairness and respect in everything we do. Our work is guided by a simple principle: children and young people come first.
The SIBT (SEND Inclusion, Belonging & Thriving) questionnaire supports Ofsted-style area SEND research and local co-production with families and Parent Carer Forums. Its purpose is to capture the lived experience of children with SEND and their families and turn it into anonymous, area-level insight that can improve local support.
Participation is voluntary and consent-based. No identifiable data is collected, so responses cannot be traced back to any individual child or family. Results are only ever reported as combined, anonymous statistics per area.
Our full ethical commitment, values, independence statement and founder transparency & conflict of interest declaration are published on our About & Transparency page (/about).
Terms of use
This site provides general information and guidance about the SEND system in England. It is not legal advice. For advice on your individual situation, please contact your local SENDIASS service or IPSEA.
AI-assisted tools (such as Ada and the letter generators) produce draft suggestions only — always read them carefully and complete any [placeholders] before you use or send anything.
We work hard to keep information accurate and up to date, drawing on official Department for Education and Ofsted sources, but we cannot guarantee it is error-free and we accept no liability for decisions made on the basis of it.
